1Who we are
ROTT-IRON is a free bodyweight training app made by Shaun Caughey, an independent developer in British Columbia, Canada. In this policy, "we", "us" and "our" mean Shaun Caughey, the developer of ROTT-IRON. "You" means anyone who uses the app.
Shaun Caughey is responsible for this app and for how it handles personal information. For any privacy question, contact dogsandweights@rott-iron.com.
2What the app stores on your phone
To build your program and track your progress, the app saves what you enter in its own private storage on your phone. It stays there. It is not sent to us, and we have no way to see it.
| What | Examples | Why the app needs it |
|---|---|---|
| Your profile | Name, birth date, sex (or "prefer not to say"), height, bodyweight, preferred units | To address you, set fair rank targets, and work out weight-based targets |
| Your program | Training goal, days you train, rest days, equipment you have (including resistance band colours) | To build your workouts from what you actually have |
| Your training record | Sets, reps, weights, ranks, badges, streaks, workout history and personal bests | To make workouts harder as you get stronger, and to show your progress |
| Health and fitness notes you choose to enter | Sore or injured areas and how you chose to handle them, how a workout felt, steps you type in, other activities you log | To adjust or pause training, and to count your activity |
| Your own words | Your reason for starting | To remind you of it when you need it |
| Settings | Light or dark mode, units, reminder time if you set one | To show the app the way you set it |
The app asks for one permission, and only if you turn on training reminders: permission to show notifications. Reminders are set by your phone itself and work without an internet connection. The app also uses your phone's vibration to signal the end of a rest timer.
3What we don't collect
ROTT-IRON does not send your information over the internet, and it does not need an internet connection to work. Specifically, the app does not:
- ask you to create an account, log in, or give an email address or phone number;
- collect your location, contacts, photos, camera, microphone or files;
- read step counts or health data from your phone's sensors, Google Health Connect or Apple Health (steps are counted only if you type them in);
- show ads or contain any advertising code;
- use analytics, tracking, crash-reporting or other third-party data tools;
- use cookies, advertising IDs or device fingerprinting;
- sell, rent, trade or share your personal information with anyone.
4Health and fitness information
Some of what you enter, like bodyweight, sore areas and how a workout felt, is health and fitness information. We treat it with extra care.
- It is used only to run your training inside the app.
- It is never used for advertising, marketing or data mining, and it is never sold or shared.
- It never leaves your phone through the app.
ROTT-IRON is a fitness app, not a medical device. It does not diagnose, treat or prevent any condition, and nothing in it is medical advice. Talk to a doctor or other qualified health professional before starting a new exercise program, and if you have pain, an injury or a health condition. Stop and get medical help if you get chest pain, feel faint or dizzy, or can't catch your breath.
5Your phone's own backups
So you don't lose your progress when you change phones, ROTT-IRON allows your phone's built-in backup to include the app's data. Whether that backup happens is controlled by you, in your phone's settings, not by us.
- Android: If backup is turned on, Android saves a copy to a private area of your Google account. Google says this copy is end-to-end encrypted on Android 9 and newer, and that it can't be read by other apps. We cannot access it. Google's privacy policy covers it.
- iPhone: If iCloud Backup or a computer backup is turned on, the app's data may be included in that backup. We cannot access it. Apple's privacy policy covers it. ROTT-IRON itself does not use iCloud storage, iCloud Drive, CloudKit or Apple Health.
You can turn these backups off or delete them at any time in your phone's settings.
Your own save file. In Settings, Save my progress makes one small file with everything the app stores. Your phone's share screen then lets you choose where it goes: for example, email it to yourself, text it, or put it in your cloud drive. The app does not send it anywhere on its own, and we never receive it. Load my progress lets you pick that file later to put your progress back. Anyone who gets the file can read your progress, so keep it somewhere private, and delete copies you no longer need.
6Google Play and the App Store
When you download ROTT-IRON, Google or Apple handles the download under its own privacy policy. As part of running their stores, they may give developers general statistics, such as how many people installed the app. They may also provide crash reports, but only from people who agreed to share them with Google or Apple. These reports do not identify you to us by name, and we use them only to fix problems.
7Sharing
We do not share your personal information with anyone, because we don't have it. No third party, analytics company, advertiser or partner receives your data through the app.
If the app ever adds a feature that shares data with another service, that service will have to protect your data at least as well as this policy does. We will tell you, and update this policy, before any such feature is released.
8Keeping and deleting your information
Your information stays on your phone until you delete it. We keep no copy, so there is nothing for us to keep, delete or hand over. It also means we cannot restore your progress for you if it is lost.
To delete everything the app has stored
- In the app: go to Settings → Delete my data, then type DELETE to confirm. This erases everything the app has stored, and the app starts fresh.
- Android: uninstall ROTT-IRON. To wipe its data but keep the app, go to Settings → Apps → ROTT-IRON → Storage → Clear storage. Menu names vary slightly between phone makers.
- iPhone: press and hold the ROTT-IRON icon, then choose Remove App → Delete App. Or go to Settings → General → iPhone Storage → ROTT-IRON → Delete App.
- Backups: to remove copies kept in your phone backups, delete them in your Google account or iCloud backup settings.
Because the app never collects your information, you never need to ask us for permission to delete it, and there is no consent to withdraw from us. Deleting the app stops all processing.
9Security
The app keeps your information in its private storage on your phone. Your phone's operating system stops other apps from reading that storage. Because nothing is sent over the internet, your information can't be intercepted in transit or exposed in a breach of our systems; we have no systems holding it.
Anyone who can unlock your phone can open the app and see what's in it, so we recommend using a screen lock. If your phone is lost or stolen, your progress goes with it unless you have a phone backup turned on.
10Your rights
Depending on where you live, privacy laws give you rights over your personal information. These include Canada's PIPEDA and British Columbia's Personal Information Protection Act, the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation, and US state laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act. Your rights can include access, correction, deletion, and withdrawing consent.
Because your information stays on your phone, you can use these rights yourself at any time:
- see it in the app;
- change it in the app's profile and settings;
- delete it as described in section 8.
We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined in California law.
If you have a question or concern, contact us first (section 13). You can also complain to a privacy regulator:
- in British Columbia, the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for BC (oipc.bc.ca);
- elsewhere in Canada, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (priv.gc.ca);
- outside Canada, the data protection authority where you live.
11Children
ROTT-IRON is made for adults 18 and over. During setup the app asks for your birth date. This stays on your phone. The app does not continue for anyone under 18. The app collects no information from anyone, including children.
12Changes to this policy
If we change how ROTT-IRON handles information, we will update this page and the date at the top before the new version of the app is released. One example would be adding an online way to save your progress. If a change means the app starts collecting any information, we will tell you inside the app and ask for your consent first.
